PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a demodulator whose reliability is enhanced with respect to decoding a TMCC signal. SOLUTION: In the demodulator for a digital broadcast receiver that receives a digital broadcast adopting a hierarchical transmission system, a pseudo pattern generator 8 generates fixed pseudo data free from errors and keeping a convolution relation between a TMCC signal and a main signal that follows the TMCC signal, and the generated pseudo data are inserted between the TMCC signal and the main signal that follows the TMCC signal by way of selectors 6B, 6 and the resulting signal is Viterbi-decoded.
