The sleeve consists of a band (1) of a supple material such as thin stainless steel with its inner surface lined with a supple sealing material (2) such as rubber. The band is placed round the pipe so it covers the area of the burst (8), and is held in place and tensioned by tensioners (9), each with a bolt (5) and a bracket (7) applying a force against two right-angled anchors (3) via rods (4, 4'). In addition to the band, the anchors, rods and tensioners are all made from stainless steel or are treated against corrosion.
