The regulator for an engine valve (13) controlled by a rocker lever (11) and a cam (12) consists of a thrust member (10) interacting with the outer end of the rocker lever. The position of the thrust member is governed by a stop (15) which can be adjusted while the engine is in operation to vary the travel and duration of the valve opening according to the engine's functioning. The regulator can also incorporate a hydraulic play take-up system to compensate for wear and possible deformation of components.
