IMAGE READER CAPABLE OF COMPENSATING IMAGE DISTORTION AND METHOD THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of compensating image distortion every time an image scanning operation is performed. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with a sensor module to be moved along a moving path so as to receive image signals for indicating an object to be scanned. A calibration plate provided with N pieces of interleaved black stripes distributed along an X axis orthogonal to the moving path is scanned first. The physical position of the N pieces of the black stripes is known. An image gathering device scans the calibration plate, calculates (102) the position of the N pieces of the black stripes, compares the calculated image position with the physical position of the N pieces of the black stripes and calculates (106) deformation amounts to the respective black stripes. The deformation amounts are used (105) for compensating the image distortion of the scanned object.
