PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a process for producing a liquid crystal display device, which enables bright color display and is relatively simple in production process by forming partition walls in empty cells by photolithographic processing and filling liquid crystals into segmented plural blocks. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device is constituted by forming a guest-host type liquid crystal cell of a two-layered structure. The first layer is a black and white display cell 1, and the second layer is a color display cell. The liquid crystals added with black dyestuffs are filled into the black and white display cell 1. The liquid crystal layer of the color display cell 2 has plural blocks segmented by the partition walls 3 in a pixel unit. The process for production consists of first forming the empty cell of the two-layered type, superposing a photomask and exposing the cell with UV rays. A monomer of the irradiated portions is polymerized through the irradiation with UV rays to form the partition walls 3. Next, the liquid crystals added with the desired dyestuffs are filled into chambers partitioned by the polymer walls 3 of the second cell 2, while the liquid crystals 16 added with the black dyestuffs are filled between the substrates of the first cell 1. |
