<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the arithmetic processing to set a variable deciding a compression rate of an original image in data compression. SOLUTION: In the case of receiving designation of an original image S and a target value (z) of a data size, entry of a scale factor SF1 is received, a received valueαis set to the SF1, the value is multiplied by a prescribed quantization table and the original image S is compressed in a 1st processing path to obtain a compressed image C1. Then in a given correlation function R, a value corresponding to the scale factor SF1 is set to 100%, and a scale is formed on the Y axis. A reduction rate to be attained is calculated on the basis of a data size y1 of the compressed image C1 and the set target value (z) and a scale factor SF2 corresponding to the reduction rate is obtained in the correlation function R, and it is multiplied by a prescribed quantization table and the original image S is compressed in a 2nd processing path to obtain a compressed image C2 having a data size nearly equal to the target value.</p> |
