摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a reflection or half-transmission and half-reflection type liquid crystal display device which has high resolution and low power consumption and is low-priced by providing a reflection type liquid crystal panel for black-and-white display and a polarizing plate, arranging a color separating means which separates incident white light into red light, green light, and blue light in order and transmits them in front of a liquid crystal panel, and making a color display by making use of time-division color mixing. SOLUTION: This device comprises the black-and-white liquid crystal display panel 10, the polarizing plate 20 which is arranged in front of the liquid crystal panel 10, a front light 30 as a lighting means arranged before it, the color separating means which is arranged before it, and a liquid crystal driving circuit which drives the liquid crystal panel 10. The color separating means functions to sequentially separate the incident white light into red light R, green light G, and blue light B and transmit them and is composed of a 1st liquid crystal shutter 41 formed of, for example, a 1st color polarizing plate 42, a 2nd liquid crystal shutter 43 formed of a πcell, and a 2nd color polarizing plate 44.
