PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal reproducing apparatus which can make a time display as much as possible. SOLUTION: A VCR 10 includes a microcomputer 14, which controls a fluorescent tube controller 24 according to a remote control signal supplied from a remote control transmitter 32. When a cassette tape is loaded and reproduction is indicated, a counter is displayed on a fluorescent tube 26 and time is displayed on the fluorescent lamp 26 10 seconds after the change of VCR status from stop to reproduction is indicated. The counter is also displayed on the fluorescent tube 26 for 10 seconds after other operations (FF, REW, CUE, and RE VIEW) are changed to reproduction during the operations and the time is displayed on the fluorescent lamp 26 10 seconds thereafter. Since the counter is displayed on the fluorescent tube, only for 10 seconds according to the indication of reproduction, time display can be made as much as possible.
