PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To vary recording density in accordance with an error rate required for digital information. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a first digital signal processing circuit 11 processing a digital signal including video and voice information, and a second digital signal processing circuit 12 processing digital data including data and characters information. When a digital signal is inputted from a SEL input terminal, by shortening a recording wavelength by increasing a recording frequency of a digital signal in the first digital signal processing circuit 11, a digital signal is recorded in a magnetic tape T with a short wavelength by rotary magnetic heads 16a, 16b through a recording and reproducing circuit 14. On the other hand, when a signal indication digital data is inputted from a SEL input terminal, by lengthening a recording wavelength by decreasing a recording frequency of a digital data in the second digital signal processing circuit 12, digital data is recorded in the magnetic tape T with a long wavelength by the rotary magnetic heads 16a, 16b through the recording and reproducing circuit 14.
