PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control competition on a network. SOLUTION: Concerning a method for supporting a peripheral device on the network, this method has a client 12 having general software ability and a server 10 connected to the peripheral device. The client 12 transmits a peripheral device connection request through a data packet to the server 10 and the server 10 accepts the connection. The server 10 judges the possibility of utilizing a peripheral device 16 and locks it so that the other client 12 can not use this peripheral device 16. When the peripheral device 16 can be utilized, the server 10 opens the connection with the peripheral device 16 and reports the possibility of utilizing the peripheral device 16 to the client 12. The server 10 waits predetermined data from the client 12 and when the data are received, the client 12 waits the control of the peripheral device 16 for the first predetermined time at least. When completing the data transmission to the client 12, the server 10 closes the connection with the client 12.
