PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of parts and reduce costs by transferring in the parallel direction a stocker which houses plural number of cartridges in parallel, making the selected cartridge come in and out at one exclusive inlet, closing the stocker at the time of being transferred in the parallel direction and opening the stocker at the time of being housed and transported. SOLUTION: This cartridge changer is provided with a stock means B having a stocker 21 capable of attaching and detaching plural number of cartridges 8 and moreover capable of housing them in parallel. The cartridge 8 is transported between the stocker 21 and a recording and reproducing means or the like. An optional cartridge 8 among plural number of cartridges 8 housed in the stocker 21 is selected and taken out, or the stocker 21 is transferred in the parallel direction of the cartridge 8. It is prevented that the cartridge 8 within the stocker 21 protrudes forward from one front opening part 10a formed in a mechanical base 10 at the time of being transferred from the stocker 21, and also that the cartridge 8 is inserted from the front when the cartridge 8 is recorded and reproduced.
