PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data recording and reproducing device capable of video recording/monitoring without any gap by always writing inputted images in the magneto-optical disk of a magneto-optical disk library in a monitoring system. SOLUTION: An image inputted from a camera is converted in its file format by a video decoder 12 and a motion JPEG converter 13, and this image is written through an SCSI controller 23 and an SCSI connector 24 in a magneto- optical disk loaded in one magneto-optical driver of an MO changer part 3. When the capacity of this magneto-optical disk is made full, the writing in the other magneto-optical disk loaded in the other magneto-optical disk during the writing in one magneto-optical disk or at the same time as the loading is started, and the images without any gap of the inputted images can be recorded.
