PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain power saving, and to improve operability in a digital camera having an optical finder and an image pickup data displaying part equipped with a back light. SOLUTION: This digital camera is provided with an optical finder 31 and a liquid crystal display part. This digital camera is provided with an eyepiece detecting unit Seye for detecting whether or not a photographer is using the optical finder 31 and a control means for turning on or turning off the back light of the liquid crystal display part based on the output of the eyepiece detecting unit Seye. Thus, the back light of the liquid crystal display part can be automatically turned on or turned off according to the detected result. Also, power saving can be attained, and operability can be improved.
