PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal aligning agent, having improved wettability and adhesion to a substrate by using a mixed solvent consisting of an aprotic polar solvent and an alcoholic solvent and a specified polyimide resin precursor. SOLUTION: A polyimide resin precursor, having repeating units represented by the formula, is dissolved in a solvent consisting of 25-60 wt.% aprotic polar solvent and 70-45 wt.% alcoholic solvent and/or glycolic solvent at 0.5-20 wt.% concentration to obtain the objective liquid crystal aligning agent. In the formula, R1 is a tetravalent organic group constituting a tetracarboxylic acid or its derivative, R2 is a divalent organic group constituting diamine, R3 is H or 1-4C alkyl, (m) is a positive integer and at least one of R1 and R2 contains a cycloaliphatic structure. Occurrence of pinholes and peeling are suppressed, and wettability and adhesion to a substrate can be improved. |
