PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To register the feature value of a fingerprint image which shows directly the features of a fingerprint even when the fixed state of a finger is not stable by synthesizing the feature value that is not disused among those extracted ones with the feature value that is extracted by a reinput means and registering this synthesizing result on a data base. SOLUTION: A fingerprint image input part 11 inputs continuously three fingerprint images #1-#3, and a feature value extraction part 12 extracts the feature value of images #1-#3. The extracted feature value of images #1-#3 are stored in the storage parts 14-16 respectively. A matching degree evaluation part 18 outputs the feature value of images #1 and #3 to a feature value synthesizing part 20 if the image #2 is an ineffective fingerprint image, for example, and also outputs the feature value of a fingerprint image #4 that is extracted again at the part 12 to the part 20. The part 20 receives the feature value of images #1, #3 and #4 and synthesizes them, and a register part 21 registers these synthesized feature value on a data base 22.
