PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switch device of no contact point for detecting linear motion of a metal shaft without specific processing on the metal shaft. SOLUTION: A manual valve shaft l is a metal shaft linearly moved interlockingly with position modes P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1 of an automatic transmission. A front of the manual valve shaft 1 is movably inserted into a housing part 20 from an opening of its side surface. A synthetic resin housing 2 has a substrate housing part 22 formed in respect to the housing part 20 across a partition wall 21. A print substrate 4 mounts electronic parts 9 composing sensor coils 31 of a fixed pick-up portion and a circuit for signal processing. The print substrate 4 is connected to a computation control device 6 of an external automobile by means of a signal wire 5 for sending a position detecting signal of each parts of the manual valve shaft 1 as a switch output.
