PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device which has an on-chip lens exhibiting a high converging efficiency and whose sensitivity characteristics are improved. SOLUTION: A solid-state image pickup device is provided with a substrate 1 on the surface layer, of which photoreceptive elements 2 are arranged in matrix form and on-chip lenses 4 in stripe form which are arranged on the substrate 1 covering the photoreceptive elements 2 along the direction of their arrangement. Notches a with shallow wedges at their extremity are provided on the part of the sidewalls of the on-chip lenses 4 corresponding to the photoreceptive elements 2.
