PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defection device and deflecting method capable of preventing degradation of image quality of displayed video due to a magnetic field to be generated in a getter. SOLUTION: Horizontal deflected current IH is supplied to a horizontal deflection coil by being synchronized with a horizontal synchronizing signal H by a horizontal deflection circuit 40. A waveform correction current IA is supplied to a vertical deflection circuit 30 by a waveform correction circuit 50. Vertical deflection current IAV which is corrected based on the waveform correction current IA by being synchronized with the horizontal synchronizing signal H and a vertical synchronizing signal V is supplied to a vertical deflection coil of a cathode ray tube 10 by the vertical deflection circuit 30. Thus, distortion of a scanning line due to the magnetic field to be generated in the getter is corrected.
