PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the processing speed and to reduce the memory capacity by selecting or judging partial charge of processes that can be taken between the image output device and image output controller according to the state at the time when an image output request is made, and various information, etc. SOLUTION: When image data before an interpreter process, i.e., a PDL command are sent from the image output controller 1' to the image output device 2, proper selection settings are made with a manual or automatic switch 14 and the image output device 2 performs the interpreter process. When image data after the interpreter process are sent from the image output controller 1' to the image output device 2, proper selection settings are made by the switch 14, and the image output device 2 does not perform the interpreter process and only the process of a printer engine 17 is performed. The image output device 2 is therefore able to receive the data by connecting to the image output controller equipped with an interpreter no matter the device is equipped with the interpreter.
