PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To project a projection original image displayed on a liquid crystal panel on a screen surface with a high optical performance. SOLUTION: Relating to illuminating device, a luminous flux emitted from a light source 1 is reflected and condensed by a reflector 2 and made incident on the light incident surface 3a of an integrator 3 whose inside surface is made a reflection surface, and a surface to be irradiated is illuminated by the luminous flux from the light exit surface 3f of the integrator. The device is provided with a lens system for obtaining a conjugate relation between the apex of the reflector and the light exit surface of the integrator in the aforesaid case.
