摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the utilization efficiency of illuminating light by making a light source emit the illuminating light according to spectroscopic characteristics that energy is not distributed in wavelength bands before and behind half-value wavelength in a color synthesis and separation means. SOLUTION: The illuminating light is emitted by the white laser beam source 22 and guided to a polarizing beam splitter, and an S polarized light component out of the illuminating light is emitted from the polarizing beam splitter to a dichroic mirror. The illuminating light by white laser beam is generated by respectively emitting the laser beams LR, LG and LB in narrow wavelength bands belonging to a red wavelength band, a green wavelength band and a blue wavelength band from the laser beam sources 22R, 22G and 22B so that the energy may not be distributed in the wavelength bands before and behind the half-value wavelength in the dichroic mirror, and synthesizing the laser beams LR, LG and LB. Thus, the loss of the illuminating light is prevented and the utilization efficiency of the illuminating light is improved in the projection type display device.
