PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and automatically measure at high speed by providing a shooting means, a lighting means, an imaging means, an A/D converting means and a data processing means and computing a dimension of an object with digital data consisting of pixel values. SOLUTION: This device comprises a plastic card 11, an area sensor camera 12, lenses 13, 16, a light source 14, an optical fiber 15, a mirror 17, and a half- mirror 18. The area sensor camera of an image pickup means has plurality of light-receiving elements arranged two-dimensionally at predetermined fixed positions. Also, the lens 13 for the image pickup means which picks up images an image on a surface of the card 11 to a face of an area sensor on the area sensor camera 12. A lighting means is constituted of the light source 14 and the half-mirror 18 and irradiates light which turns coaxial with a image pickup optical axis of the area sensor camera 12 to the card 11. A data processing means extracts a line profile which is pixel data on the card 11 on a straight line including 2 end points, and computes quantity of pixels to sum up quantity of pixels of each end point portion and intermediate portions and then compute the dimension of an object.
