摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an intermediate member of a multistage shock absorber from coming off from a specified level to collide with members on both sides during operation of the shock absorber. SOLUTION: A cylinder body 3 of a small diameter side unit 1 forms a piston rod of a large diameter side unit 2, and is an intermediate member which can be located at any position. Further, the cylinder body 3 tends to drop because low-pressure gas is sealed in the cylinder bodies 3, 14. A cylinder 4a is formed to be open into the inner end face of a piston rod 4, and a piston 24 is fitted in the cylinder to confine a pump room 25. The pump room 25 is connected to a room 10 through a suction check valve and connected to a room 20 through a discharge check valve 28. The piston 24 is firmly fastened to the bottom part of the cylinder body 3 through a rod 26, and while the rod 24 and the cylinder body 3 are relatively displaced, the piston 24 produces a working liquid flow which flows from the room 10 up to the room 20 to raise the cylinder body 3 having a tendency to drop. When a specified level is reached, a clearance is formed between the piston 24 and the cylinder 4a, and a pumping action is stopped to return the cylinder body 3 to the specified level.
