PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer system which does not change an OS structure largely and prevents the overhead of directory retrieval when files having discontinuous spaces are inputted and outputted. SOLUTION: A space information table storing part 2 comprises a basic space information table storing part 2-1 and an expanded space information table storing part 2-2. Every time when a file is allocated, one basic space information table storing part 2-1 is produced, and whenever a file is allocated, plural expanded space information table storing parts 2-2 are produced. The part 2-1 is produced while a file 5 corresponds to a user program of a memory 6 in a disk D. A file I/O part 1 calculates the position of the file 5 of the disk D from the relative position of the file 5 of the part 2-1. A space information updating part 3 secures the part 2-2, copies the contents of the part 2-1, reads a directory 4 and reflects space information in the part 2-2.
