PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To present a software version to a user by a simple procedure and to improve the convenience of a software service by storing the identification information of the software version in a memory beforehand and reading and displaying it at the time of activation. SOLUTION: When power is supplied, a control part 2 performs a prescribed initialization processing, then reads software identification information from a ROM 3, displays it at an operation display part 9, and then when operation input is present, displays a prescribed information image and shifts to a standby state. In the case that the user inquires of a maker side questions relating to the function or the like of this facsimile equipment 1, when it is required to report the version of the ROM, by temporarily turning OFF the power source of the equipment 1 and turning it ON again, version information is displayed at a display device 9. The user easily recognizes the version information by the simple procedure and informs a maker. Also, the time of the display of the version information is set by a timer circuit 7.
