PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can prevent deterioration in the scanning quantity caused by dispersion in the luminance of a light source. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with a plate 32 on which a transparent object is placed, a lighting module placed on one side of the plate 32, a 1st device 36 placed on the lighting module, a scanning module placed on the other side of the plate 32 and having an image sensor 35, and a 2nd device 44 placed on the scanning module. Through the structure above, since the 2nd device 44 attracts the 1st device 36 by magnetism when reading an image of the transparent object, the lighting module is moved along with a scanning line simultaneously with the scanning module.
