PURPOSE: A method for recovering malonic acid dialkyl ester is provided which the recovery process of is simple, prevents decomposition of malonic acid dialkyl ester caused by the use of strong acid and thus improves yield of recovery and production efficiency, can solve environmental pollution problem since an amount of generated waste water becomes lower by the method, and is also advantageous in economical aspects. CONSTITUTION: The method for recovering malonic acid dialkyl ester of the following chemical formula 1 from synthetic solution containing malonic acid dialkyl ester obtained from a reaction of an acetic acid ester, a cobalt catalyst, an alcohol and carbon monoxide is characterized in that in the washing process, the remaining alcohol is recovered to be reused in the process and only distilled water is used instead of strong acid: (chemical formula 1), wherein R<SB POS="POST">1</SB> and R<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, which is the same or different, are an alkyl group having 1 - 5 carbon atoms.
