PURPOSE: A microwave oven able to block the leakage of electromagnetic waves easily is provided to easily reduce the electromagnetic waves leaked from a microwave oven without applying a complex structure or components. CONSTITUTION: A magnetron generates 2.45GHz high frequency electromagnetic waves according to the operation of a microwave oven via an operation panel(7) after placing a food. The electromagnetic waves are reflected on the metal forming an inner part of a microwave oven, transmitted through glass or ceramic dishes and absorbed in organic substance containing water such as fish and meat. Herein, the molecules of the food are rotated and vibrated by the electromagnetic waves, and a friction force is generated. After a certain time, the food is heated at moderate temperature. Even though the high frequency electromagnetic waves are generated in a body(3), a gap(9) composing one slot corresponding to half of the operation frequency wave length(gamma) is divided into 1/4 of the wave length by one conducting ridge(11), furthermore shortened to 1/8 of the wave length by three conducting ridges. Herein, the length of the gap as a slot antenna is shortened. Thereby, a considerable portion of the electromagnetic waves leaked out of a microwave oven is blocked.
