PURPOSE: A spacer in a field emission display is provided to reduce a time for forming the spacer, secure a fine structure and prevent other elements from being damaged or contaminated. CONSTITUTION: A spacer(60) comprises a dual structure of a metal layer(59) and an insulation layer(61). The metal layer(59) is made of a metal material having a strong adhesion force with ceramic, fast deposition speed and resistance against high temperature. The insulation layer(61) is formed on an upper surface or an entire surface of the metal layer(59) and is made of the ceramic having no electric conductivity. A plurality of cathode electrodes(43) of a stripe shape are formed on the lower substrate(41). A plurality of anode electrodes(53) are formed on the upper substrate(51) so as to be intersected with the cathode electrodes(43). The lower and upper substrates(41,51) are spaced by the spacer(60) so as to form a space.
