The invention relates to a pepper extract, to a method for preparing it and to pharmaceutical compositions comprising the pepper extract according to the invention. The invention also relates to the use of pepper extract for medical purposes, including both pharmaceutical and veterinary uses. According to the invention pepper extract is prepared by extracting fully ripe, dried and ground pepper with a vegetable oil for at least 2 days at a temperature not exceeding 20 DEG C and separating then the extract. This extract can be used for the treatment of burn or open injuries and in any other medical condition where capsaicin proved to be beneficial.
