PURPOSE: A method for improving a contrast ratio of PDP(Plasma Display Panel) television is provided to adjust the sustain interval of upper sub field to increase the contrast ratio of the PDP television. CONSTITUTION: A method for improving a contrast ratio of PDP(Plasma Display Panel) television includes first and second steps. Each R(Red),G(Green),B(Blue). digital data converted to N-bit digital data is reconfigured into N sub field data with different sustain regions. The reconfigured N-bit digital data is addressed on a panel. A scan/sustain pulse is generated and applied on each line. At the first step, a discharge sustain pulse number of the uppermost sub field is decreased according to a predetermined number. On the uppermost sub field, an uppermost data of the N sub field data is written. At the second step, the discharge sustain pulse number of the lowermost sub field is increased according to a predetermined number. On the lowermost sub field, a lowermost data of the N sub field data is written.
