PURPOSE: An apparatus for removing dummy cells in an ATM cell removing system is provided to remove wrong received cell among the ATM cells received from the other side so that the receiving of cells can always be carried out rightly. CONSTITUTION: A buffer(10) receives an 53-bit ATM cell in serial. A switching part(12), receiving the ATM cell from the buffer(10), selects one out of two 8-bit output paths according to a switching control signal and outputs it through the selected path. A header information storage part(14) stores header information. A header processing part(16) receives the ATM cell from the switching part(12) by the 8 bits, compares its header information with stored header information and outputs a cell removal signal if it is not a rightly received ATM cell. A cyclic redundancy check part(18), if the cell removal signal is supplied from the header processing part(16), removes a dummy cell from the ATM cell after cyclic redundancy check decoding. In case that a normal header error control signal is detected, the cyclic redundancy check part(18) outputs a detection signal. If the detection signal is inputted from the cyclic redundancy check part(18) in the state that the cell removal signal has been supplied from the header processing part(16), a switching control part(20) outputs a switching control signal to make the switching part(12) switch to the header processing part(16). In case that the detection signal is not inputted, the switching control part(20) outputs a switching control signal to the switching part(12) so that the switching part(12) can switch to the cyclic redundancy check part(18).
