PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for processing fax data in a composite device are provided to perform a matrix conversion that changes the fax data generated in a fax to the data suitable for an ink jet printer head. CONSTITUTION: A personal computer(200) executes software, and generates print data according to the result of the software execution. A fax(110) is provided with the information, transmitted from outside and recorded on a manuscript, as scanned fax data, and converts a format of the fax data. An ink jet printer part(120) receives the fax data with the converted format from the fax(110) and the print data from the computer(200), and performs a print job according to the received fax data and print data. The fax(110) includes a CPU(111) for processing the fax data, a memory(112) for temporarily storing the fax data processed by the CPU(111), and a fax data process part(113) for performing the matrix conversion of the fax data and thereby changing the format of the fax data.
