A lifter bar (40) for a grinding mill is arranged to be secured to, or adjacent to, an inner surface of a cylindrical shell of the grinding mill. The lifter bar (40) has a head (24), a base (26), an exposed trailing face (30) and an exposed leading face (32). The exposed leading face (32) has a non-linear profile and is arranged, in use, to produce a reduced throw of a charge in the grinding mill as compared with a conventional narrow angle lifter bar.
