PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability of automatic assembling of an O-ring. SOLUTION: A tapered guide surface 12 is formed on an outer peripheral surface of a front of a pin member 15. A tapered guide surface 13 which is widened in a reversed manner is formed from the front of the tapered guide surface 12. A constricted portion 14 is formed between the tapered guide surfaces 12 and 13, to which an O-ring 1 is externally fitted. A guide member 17 is externally fitted to the pin member 15 in a relatively movable manner. A pressing surface 16 is formed on the front of the guide member 17 for pusing the held O-ring 1 into the constricted portion 14 of the pin member 15. The front of the pin member 15 is inserted into a recession of a work. The O-ring 1 is pressed by the tapered guide surface 12 of the pin member 15 and the pressing surface 16 of the guide member 17 for fitting it into the recession. Afterward, the O-ring 1 is pushed by the guide member 17 and then the pin member 15 is retreated. The twisting generated by fitting the O-ring 1 is eliminated at this time by the reverse tapered surface 13.
