COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the service for a user in a composite ToL/PBX communication system by deciding the propriety of use of the band width when a call is set and properly allocating the band width. SOLUTION: In a communication system 100 including a private branch exchange PBX 114 and a telephone communication ToL system server 102 which are connected to a LAN 104, a single policy is applied to each user of the PBX 114 and the ToL system server 102. When a client 107 of a telephone communication feature access TFA 106 sends a calling request to a TFA gateway 120 of the PBX 114, this request is notified to a gate keeper 103 of the server 102. The keeper 103 refers to a database to detect whether any band width is available to the requested call and connects this call if the hand width is available. If the band width is not enough for the requested call, a rejection message is sent to the gateway 120. The gateway 120 supplies the corresponding signal such as a fast busy tone to the user of the TFA 106.
