PURPOSE: An apparatus for inserting/extracting the monitoring channel in multichannel optical transmission system and the method thereof are provided to monitor each channel by extracting multi-section monitoring channel, after aligning the wavelength distance of each light source and inserting multi-section monitoring channel. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of optical separators(111-11n) separate the input optical signals transmitted from the external. Optical-to-electrical converters(121-12n) convert the optical signals transmitted separately from the optical separators(111-11n) into electrical signals correspondingly. An optical multiplexer(130) multiplexes the separately transmitted optical signals. An optical separator(11(n+1)) separates the optical signal multiplexed by the optical multiplexer(130). An optical-to-electrical converter(12(n+1)) converts the optical signals transmitted separately from the optical separator(11(n+1)) into electrical signals correspondingly. Amplifiers(131-13(n+1)) amplify the electrical signals outputted from the optical-to-electrical converter(12(n+1)). A multiplexer(140) multiplexes the amplified electrical signals. An A/D converter(150) converts a signal of analog pattern into a digital signal. A decoder(160) decodes the digital signal. A monitoring channel transmitter(170) transmits the optical signal of a monitoring channel. An optical inserter(180) inserts the optical signal from the optical separator(11(n+1)) into the optical signal of the monitoring channel. An alarm controller(190) generates an alarm control signal. A light emitting diode(191) displays that the converted electrical signal is not normal.
