PURPOSE: A method for controlling forward power using an erasure indicator bit is provided to carry out power control by judging the quality of a forward link using an erasure indicator bit contained in a backward traffic channel frame that a terminal transmits. CONSTITUTION: A call control processor sends a call allocation message to a transceiver selector bank, the transceiver selector bank gets ready to set up a traffic channel by giving and taking time synchronization with a channel element. A mobile station sends a null traffic to the channel element to announce that the traffic channel is going to be started. If the traffic channel is started, the transceiver selector bank executes the initialization of a forward power control operation(310). If an acquisition message of a personal terminal is arrived, forward power control is started by the transceiver selector bank(320). The transceiver selector bank receives a backward traffic frame the personal terminal transmits every 20 microseconds and divides it into the first channel, the second channel, a control signal and an erasure indicator bit in accordance with multiplex option 2(330). Then the transceiver selector bank executes forward power control according to a value of the separated erasure indicator bit(340).
