PURPOSE: A remote controller is provided to offer a remote controller provided with a microprocessor unit wherein an LED driving circuit outputting infrared ray signals is integrated on a monolithic integrated circuit. CONSTITUTION: A remote controller(1) is comprised of a key matrix(100) and a microprocessor unit(120) having the first terminal(T1) connected with the key matrix(100) and the second terminal(T2) connected with an LED(32). The key matrix(100), having a plurality of keys, generates code signals corresponding to selected keys. The microprocessor unit(120) consists of a key detection circuit(140), a CPU(160), a ROM unit(160), a ram UNIT(200), a pulse code generating unit(220), and an LED driving circuit(240). The key detection circuit(140) is connected to the first terminal(T1). The ROM unit(160) stores a remote controller control program. The RAM unit(200) stores temporary data. When one out of the keys of the key matrix(100) is selected and a code signal corresponding to the selected key is detected, the pulse code generating unit(220) generates a pulse code signal corresponding to the code signal. The LED driving circuit(240) drives the LED(32) so that infrared ray signals can be generated from the LED(32).
