A PORTABLE SECURITY DEVICE

A portable security device for safely storing possessions on the ground, comprising an anchor member for burying in the groung with a proximal upper end thereof projecting from the ground, a lockable container having a base formed with an aperture to receive the proximal end of the buried anchor member when the container is placed on the ground, and catch means for engaging the proximal end of the anchor member within the container to secure the container and anchor member together. The anchor member may comprise a shaft carrying a blade at a distal end thereof whereby the anchor member may be used to dig a hole in which the anchor member is to be buried with the proximal end of the shaft projecting from the ground. A flared anchoring sleeve may be disposed on the shaft of the anchor member so as to flare away from the proximal end of the shaft.
