A coating liquid for a photocatalyst-containing coating film which comprises an organic coloring matter and can be used for confirming the formation of a film and checking the photocatalytic activity of the film after the coating liquid is applied on a substrate; and a method for applying the coating liquid. By utilizing a coating liquid comprising an organic coloring matter, the formation of a film can be confirmed after a transparent photocatalystcontaining coating liquid is applied. By utilizing a coating liquid comprising an organic coloring matter containing a metal element in its molecule, a film formed from the coating liquid can be checked for the photocatalytic activity thereof.
