PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting the address of ethernet controller and the method thereof are provided to improve the processing ability of packet through rapid comparison operation as group addresses are compared with destination addresses two bytes each after stored in the front, middle and last of internal CAM(Contents Address Memory) with parsing. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting the address of ethernet controller is composed of a PLS(Physical Later Signalling) part, a FIFO part, an SRAM and an address comparison and control part. The PLS part inputs and outputs the data of a packet unit. The FIFO part receives the input of destination address through the PLS. The SRAM comprises the internal CAM wherein group addresses are stored with parsing two bytes each. The address comparison and control part connected to the FIFO and SRAM compares group addresses and destination addresses two bytes each.
