The filter comprises porous ceramic filter tubes, or candles, of generally triangular cross section, connected to one or more clean gas headers. The tubes (4) are enclosed by a housing into which dirty gas is fed. Gas permeates through the tube walls and the dust is deposited on the outer surface of the tubes. The tubes are close packed, and in a preferred embodiment, the triangular face walls are concave.
