摘要 PURPOSE: A Reed-Solomon decoder employing a new polynomial arrangement and a decoding method of the decoder are provided which varies the arrangement of polynomial when the modified Euclid algorithm is calculated to realize the RS decoder having a simple configuration without requiring a separate order comparing circuit. CONSTITUTION: A Reed-Solomon decoder for correcting an error of a received symbol using the modified Euclid algorithm includes a calculator(232), arranging unit(234), signal generator(236), and an extracting unit. The calculator repeatedly calculates four polynomials for the modified Euclid algorithm using an input initial error locator polynomial and modified syndrome polynomial. The arranging unit arranges the coefficients of the polynomials from the left. The signal generator generates control signals representing the effective sections of the polynomials using a repetition control signal indicating beginning of every repetitive calculation. The extracting unit extracts one polynomial applied from the calculator as an error evaluator polynomial and extracts another polynomial as an error locator polynomial based on the control signals.
