PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for power supply for an outdoor unit of a split type air conditioner are provided to improve stability of power supply for the outdoor unit by shutting off AC power when an outdoor unit load is short or the AC power is abnormally supplied to the outdoor unit. CONSTITUTION: A method for power supply for an outdoor unit of a split type air conditioner includes the steps of first supplying a first limited AC power to the outdoor unit(S1), performing a first delay for a preset first reference time period(S3), shutting off the AC power if a zero potential point of the AC power is not detected or the AC power is not normally supplied to the outdoor unit(S8), performing a second delay for a preset second reference time period if the zero potential point of the AC power is detected or the AC power is normally supplied to the outdoor unit(S6), and second supplying an AC power without limitation to the outdoor unit(S9).
