PURPOSE: A device for selecting songs in a video song accompaniment system (used in singing rooms) and a method therefor are provided so that a user can select a song by using first consonants of each syllable of the title of the song. CONSTITUTION: A video song accompaniment system(which enables users to sing a song, reading a lyric at the screen) provides an accompaniment, a lyric and background of a selected song through a control panel(21) of a controller(20) having keys for inputting Korean consonants. The above Korean consonants are classified into 10 groups. And the 10 groups of Korean consonants corresponds to the numeral key of zero to nine. So a user could select his/her favorite song by inputting the consonant of the song's title. The firstly inputted consonant is identified as a first consonant of the song's title. And the secondly inputted consonant is identified as the second consonant of the song's title, and so on. As a result, the user can select songs not only by a serial number but also by a title, thereby it is more convenience to select songs.
