PURPOSE: A display performance enhancing method for a portable computer is provided so that a graphic performance is enhanced by selecting a software emulation function if corresponding acceleration function does not provided when a hardware acceleration technique and the software acceleration technique are dynamically selected. CONSTITUTION: A simple emulation function is substituted to a BLT function pointer. A hardware acceleration is determined whether to be possible or not. If not, a processing return back. If possible, the processing is branched to a corresponding processing routine. A hardware acceleration of a corresponding operation is determined whether to be possible or not. If not, the corresponding operation is returned. If possible, the hardware acceleration is determined whether to be better than the software emulation. Then, If not, the software emulation is determined whether to be possible or not. The software emulation is not possible, the processing is returned, otherwise a corresponding emulation function is substituted and returned.
