PURPOSE: A DSN(Dividing Sorting Network) in a switching system is provided to minimize the number of switching elements and reduce delay by embodying so as to be suitable to the switching of a non-blocking internal packet. CONSTITUTION: A DSN is comprised of a dividing network(40), an upper-layer batcher network(51), a lower-layer batcher network(51) and a Banyan network(60). The dividing network(40) contains a multiplexer part(41) and a switching unit(42). Each of the MUXs of the multiplexer part(41) multiplexes two input cells supplied in parallel, changes them into a stream, and supplies it to the switching unit(42). Each of the SEs(Switching Elements) of the switching unit(42), receiving each corresponding multiplexed cell from the multiplexer part(41), routes it to the upper-layer batcher network(51) if its most significant bit is '0' and to the lower-layer batcher network(51) if it is '1'. The upper-layer batcher network(51) switches the cells supplied from the dividing network(40) and transfers them to the Banyan network(60). The lower-layer batcher network(51) switches the cells supplied from the dividing network(40) and transfers them to the Banyan network(60).
