PURPOSE: An apparatus for converting format of digital audio data is to convert audio data existing in a computer with various formats into data format capable of recording or playing in a conventional audio recorder without using the computer. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises: a pulse code modulator(10) for converting an audio data file with various forms in a computer into pulse code modulated data according to their properties; an interface format converter(12) for converting the pulse code modulated data into a format conforming to a digital audio interface; and a digital audio interface unit(14) for transmitting the digital audio data formatted to a recorder. The apparatus further comprises a buffer(16) coupled to the digital interface format converter and a controller(18) for controlling the pulse code modulator, the interface format converter and the digital audio interface unit.
