PURPOSE: Method and apparatus for creating a color image using a computer-generated hologram are to properly design and fabricate three binary phase holograms corresponding to red, green and blue laser beams using red, green and blue lasers, thereby obtaining a colored hologram image. CONSTITUTION: A color image of a target pattern is divided into three color laser images of a red laser image, a green laser image and a blue laser image having wavelengths of lambda(R), lambda(G) and lambda(B) on a hologram plane(16). The three color laser images are transformed into three holograms having periods of P(R), P(G) and P(B) on the hologram plane and spaced apart by a certain interval from each other. A red laser(11), a green laser(12) and a blue laser(13) irradiate laser beams of red, green and blue color onto respective corresponding holograms. The red, green and blue laser beams irradiated from the red, green and blue lasers pass through the hologram plane and a lens(18) and are focused on an output plane(19) by the lens, thereby forming a color hologram image on the output plane.
